In India normally Ph.D. course duration takes on an average of 5 years. Lots of scholars severely asked about it, why it is taken as granted.
In this article we discuss about what is the time period of Ph.D. is 5 years and how scholars can reduce it.
University Grants Commission (UGC) is the central regulatory body of Ph.D. It makes regulations for organizing the Ph.D. course along the universities all over the country.
In the UGC ordinance of 2016 of Ph.D. regulation the duration of course is minimum 3 years including course work and six years maximum. During this time scholars must submit their progress report to the research directorate.
But UGC is given autonomy to universities to make their regulations according to their academic practices but relevant to ordinances.
Thus in various universities the duration of course work is different which is extend the duration of Ph.D. from its minimum time to the maximum time.
In India there is lack of professionalism is seen in the state universities in running in Ph.D. course. They can’t take it too much seriously and delayed the academic process. Resulting the great wastage of time in research work seen in the universities.
In the Ph.D. course many of topic are really taken more time for research process but majority of cases in Indian universities are delayed by the academic behavior.
One of example is during the Covid-19 most of the institutions are made their rules simple for the scholars but some of them make it rigid and spoil the time of the scholars and make it worst their careers.
Ph.D. scholars of India has many problems in India but not a single body is interested to sorted out them. Which makes it ugly and demarking the value of research in the country.
Regulatory authorities are not actively participating in the quality of research. They doing their works in the A.C. rooms.
If Indian scholars are concern about their quality they must aware of regulations and their rights and maintain their dignity and discipline in themselves.
